How to style a vintage dress

I was rummaging through my mom’s closet the other day and found this amazing vintage red dress! It had shoulder pads in it, but I ripped them out and it still had just enough lift in the shoulders, which is nice. I was super excited to start styling it, but I didn’t really have anywhere to wear it, so It just hung in the closet until our emergency evacuation for the Hurricane. Because it is one of my new favorite pieces, I made sure to pack it for our Charlotte evacucation. It just so happens that Friday night there was a really neat event happening at the c3 lab in Charlotte called Art Unleashed. This event was started by a 17-year old animal activist (yes, 17!!). It is basically a giant silent auction/gallery where local artists donate work to be sold and all of the proceeds go to local animal shelters. It was amazing!! On top of it being an amazing event, I was also excited that I had an opportunity to wear that vintage dress!

Styling vintage can be tricky. Do you stay with the era? Make it fit your body? Make it modern? I chose to make it modern by throwing a pair of Adidas, and a leather jacket, on with it. Because it is more of a bomber style jacket, the cut didn’t make me look bigger, which was kind of my goal due to the fact that the dress was shapeless and huge.

I also think this dress would have been great belted with a cropped blazer, and kitten heels. I am excited to show you guys different variations on this dress as time goes on!

I think you killed it in the styling of this vintage dress! Good call on taking out the shoulder pads. Lol, those always made me laugh!
